West Virginia Basketball Camps

Kids interested in basketball in West Virginia have a variety of options to choose from, including overnight and commuter camps, and opportunities for both boys and girls. Held primarily at universities, the camps work both with high school teams and individuals,. Others focus primarily on fundamentals and leadership skills for individual players.
  1. Bethany College

    • Bethany College, located in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, offers high school basketball team and individual development camps for both boys and girls. Team camps include eight games over three days, instruction time with the Bethany staff and practice time with the high school team's coaching staff. Individual development camps include three games per day for boys and girls ages 7 to 17. Camps focus on fundamental skills as well as position-specific instruction. Overnight and day camp options are available for each.

    Little Stars

    • Little Stars Basketball Camp, held each year at West Virginia University Tech, is a day camp for children held in two sessions-- one for children ages 4 to 14 and a second for kids ages 6 to 15. The camp includes individual instruction and competition, as well as 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games. Campers receive a camp basketball, T-shirt and trophy. The first session is held at the Neal D. Baisai Athletic Center on the WVU Tech campus in Montgomery, W. Va., while the second is held at Riverside High School.

    Mountaineers

    • The West Virginia University Mountaineers offer day, overnight and team camps for boys ages 8 to 18 for individuals and 13 to 19 for teams. Individual and team camps are available to overnight campers and commuters. Teams are guaranteed at least five games in a camp tournament as well as daily practice sessions. Participants in individual camps focus on skills and development.

    West Virginia State University

    • Bryan Poore, head basketball coach of the West Virginia State University Yellow Jackets, hosts a day camp for boys ages 8 to 17 each July. The camp, which focuses on fundamentals, includes two league games each day, individual contests and a T-shirt. Poore also holds daily "Game of Life" sessions in which he offers insight into becoming a successful person. The camp also includes individual instruction about fundamental skills on the court.

    West Virginia Wesleyan College

    • West Virginia Wesleyan College offers a basketball camp each year for girls ages 8 to 18. The four-day camp is open to both commuters and overnight campers. Instruction includes ball-handling, shooting, defensive fundamentals, rebounding and passing, and aims to help girls learn leadership on the court.
