West Virginia Softball Pitching Camps

Fastpitch softball pitchers require a great deal of instruction and must spend a lot of time training and perfecting their pitches. In order to excel, pitchers must learn how to perfect the windmill technique and throw different pitches. Pitching camps can be a help pitchers dedicate time to sharpening their skills. In addition to several pitching camps, individual instructors offer training located in West Virginia.

  1. Nike Softball Camp at Shepherd University

    • The Nike Softball Camp at Shepherd University, located in Shepherdstown, is held yearly in June and is open to softball players ages 10 to 18. Girls of all experience levels are welcome at the camp. Players will practice different aspects of the game, including hitting, fielding, pitching, and base running. Softball fundamentals and team play are emphasized. Campers receive T-shirts, lanyards, prizes and certificates of completion. Nike Softball Camp offers day camps, extended day camps and overnight stays.

    University of Charleston Softball Camp

    • The University of Charleston, located in Charleston, West Virginia, hosts a four-day softball camp each year in June. The camp is open to players age 6 to 18 of any experience level. The morning sessions focus on fielding, hitting, base running, specific position play and fundamental techniques. The afternoon sessions are solely for those interesting in pitching. Campers have the option to sign up for both the general and pitching camps. Costs vary based on attendance at one or both camps. Camps are instructed by current and former softball players as well as current softball coaching staff. Each attendee will receive personal instruction; camp leaders will observe each player's technique and provide individual analysis and tips on improvement.

    WVSU Softball Camp

    • West Virginia State University, in Institute, hosts a week-long basic skills and pitching softball camp each year during the summer. Players ages 7 to 18 are welcome. The general camp instructs players on hitting, bunting, fielding, throwing and sliding. The last day of the camp focuses solely on pitching and catching. Pitchers and catchers are divided into beginner and advanced groups. Campers have the option to sign up for both the general and pitching camps. Costs vary based on attendance at one or both camps.

    The City of Wheeling, West Virginia Fastpitch Softball Camp

    • Each July, the Wheeling, West Virginia Recreation Department hosts a four-day fastpitch softball summer camp for girls. The camp is led by experienced softball coaches and college players. Morning sessions include instruction for girls ages 5 to 12. Afternoon sessions are open to girls ages 13 to 18. Attendees practice hitting, base running and fielding. Camp leaders will also work with pitchers. Costs vary depending on whether or not registrants sign up before early-bird deadline.
