Softball Catchers Camps in Alabama

While there are many camps and clinics for softball players in Alabama, few of these offer dedicated instruction for the catcher position. There are exclusive catching camps outside of the state that you can take advantage of, or you might find that one of the general skill camps offered in the state will fit your needs.

  1. Samford University Defensive Clinic

    • Samford University, in Birmingham, in the north central part of the state, offers camps and clinics throughout the year. The university has two clinics in late January, with one offering special training for catchers and infield players. This is a one-day event open to all ages. The other clinic is a team session limited to high-school-age players. Samford also hosts a mini-camp in December for prospective students. The team clinic is $100. The defensive clinic is $75.

    The New England Catching Camp

    • The New England Catching Camp is based in Salem, New Hampshire, in the southeastern corner of the state. It is a short drive from Boston and offers dedicated catcher training for baseball and softball players. Several of their softball alumni have gone on to play at the college level. This organization offers camps and clinics year round, with a girls-only softball workout held in late December. Summer camps are three-day camps and cost $225. The winter workout is three days and costs $175.

    University of Michigan Softball Catching Camp

    • The University of Michigan, located in Ann Arbor, hosts a specialized catching camp each summer called "Beyond the Basics" for kids who are at least age 10 and are still in high school. Michigan also offers dedicated camps for pitching and advanced hitting skills. Instruction takes place at the Oosterbaan Fieldhouse on the campus of UM, and sessions are taught by UM coaches and players. The University of Michigan also hosts the annual Michigan Women's Softball Academy to benefit cancer research.

    All Skills Softball Camps in Alabama

    • There are several softball camps across Alabama that offer general instruction in all positions. These camps are usually held on the campuses of state colleges and universities and are run by college coaches and players. Most of these take place in the summer months and cost between $200 and $400. Coaching is available for all ages, and these camps offer insight into the recruiting and scholarship process. The University of Alabama, Auburn University and the University of Alabama in Birmingham all offer these summer camps for softball players.
