How to Create a Basketball Jersey

Basketball jerseys become closely associated with the teams that wear them. Fans of NBA and college teams sometimes pay hundreds of dollars for authentic souvenir jerseys. Once you’ve decided on a mascot and a team name, you can create a unique basketball jersey for your team. Remember that your color scheme and design should be distinguishable from the teams that you play against regularly.

Instructions

    • 1

Select a representation of your mascot or theme. For instance, if your team name is the Hawks, design a hawk-related representation or have a freelance graphic designer do one.

    • 2

Choose a color theme of two or three colors. The font and the theme should match. For instance, a representation of a hawk that features a sleek, aggressive hawk would be complemented by a font that is slender and sleek.

    • 3

Draw an outline of a basketball jersey. The neck line scoops to around the clavicle, and the shoulders are completely exposed.

    • 4

Implement the color scheme on the jersey. The home jersey is a “solid” jersey, and the away jersey should be lighter. For instance, the NBA's Boston Celtics wear green jerseys with white lettering on the road and white jerseys with green lettering for home games.

Add the lettering of the team along the top of the jersey front, along with the player's number below. The back must have the player's number, and you can have his or her name above it. Add patches on the right-hand corner of the jersey to commemorate winning a championship or anniversaries if you wish.
