Shooting Basketballs
Walter, one of my newsletter subscribers, emailed me this drill for shooting basketballs. I’m passing it on to you to try at your next practice. Let me know how it goes for you.
From Walter…
“Over the top”
Start with a group of basketball players lined up behind the baseline.
One player will go at a time and will complete a series of 4 or 5 layups.
The player will sprint to the coach, who is standing about 15 feet away, and touch the ball with both hands and turn back quickly to the basket and complete a layup after receiving a pass over his/her shoulder. The player grabs the rebound and throws a crisp pass back to the coach, who is standing about 30 feet away, and does the same thing.
Continue this drill until for 4 or 5 completed layups on one side of the court and alternate through all the players. Move to the other side of the court next and maybe add in pull-up jumpers for a variation.
This is a great conditioning drill and a good way to practice finishing in transition.
