The Best Way to Get a Strike in Bowling

Bowling is an entertaining way to spend an afternoon or evening and is a sport that children and adults of all ages can enjoy. You can alter the way you play, such as using bumpers in the gutters, for less experienced bowlers, or play in a league for a professional kick. Your ultimate goal in bowling is to get as many strikes as possible to score the most points, which wins you the game and gives you bragging rights over friends and family.

Select a ball that is appropriate for your body and strength. Don't get carried away thinking that if you use the heaviest ball you'll be better at the game. Your chances of getting a strike increase if you can properly control the ball when you release it.

    • 2

Check the bottoms of your shoes to ensure there are no crumbs, wrappers or anything else that can impact movement, cause you to cross the foul line or result in sending you down the lane along with, or instead of, the ball.

    • 3

Wipe your hands and ball down with a towel to eliminate moisture, which may cause you to let go of the ball too easily and throw it directly into the gutter or even someone else's lane.

    • 4

Roll the ball down the lane. Don't throw it. Your ball should make contact with the lane shortly after you release it and not halfway down the lane.

    • 5

Aim for the proper pins when bowling. If you're right handed, aim the ball slightly to the right of the front pin to hit that pin and the one closest to it on the right. If you're left-handed, aim a bit towards the left to make the ball collide with the pins slightly to the left of the first pin. The ball generally needs to make contact with a minimum of four pins to create a strike.
