How to Use a Bowling Ball Spinner

A bowling ball spinner is used to sand and polish a bowling ball to help keep it smooth and to change the amount of control and hook that the bowling ball will experience during game play. It is important to start with lower grit sand paper and then work up to higher grit paper before polishing. It is also important to make sure that the ball is polished evenly on all sides, so that the ball is able to stay perfectly round and able to roll straight.

Instructions

    • 1

Prepare the sandpaper. Take a sheet of sandpaper and cut it into thirds (lengthwise), which will leave you with six separate "sides" of sandpaper. Use one "side" of sandpaper for each side of the ball.

    • 2

Tape one strip of sandpaper firmly to the inside of the spinning bowl.

    • 3

Turn on the spinner and, beginning with the finger holes up, begin to sand one side of the bowling ball. Be sure to spray the bowling ball with water periodically as you sand it.

    • 4

Rotate the ball 90 degrees forward and sand again, using a fresh "side" of sandpaper.

    • 5

Repeat Step 4, rotating the ball forward 90 degrees three more times. Then, finish the sanding by rotating the ball 90 degrees to the right, sanding, and then 180 more degrees to the right, so that all sides of the ball are sanded.
