How to Lace Boxing Gloves

Knowing how to properly lace gloves is one of the most basic, yet crucial, skills for professional and amateur boxers. Lace-up gloves fit better and more securely than amateur gloves with fabric fasteners. They are the only kind of gloves that any serious boxer will use in the ring, so it makes sense to use them for practice as well. All you'll need is a friend or coach to help fit your second glove.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the first glove onto your hand. If you are tying the first glove yourself, leave your dominant hand free. If you are right handed, put the first glove on your left hand. Be sure your fingers and thumb make it all the way to the bottom of the glove.

    • 2

Thread the lace through the two holes at the top of the glove's opening. Make sure that you have roughly the same length of lace left over on each side of the glove.

    • 3

Thread the lace through the holes, all the way to the end. Cross the lace over the opening from one hole to the next, much like lacing up a shoe. After you thread each set of holes, pull the laces as tight as possible.

    • 4

Tie the ends of the laces the same way you would tie a shoe. Use a knot that you'll be able to undo after your workout, but one that won't come undone on its own.

Ask your friend or coach to repeat the process with your other glove.
