How to Punch Forcefully
Instructions

1
Stand on an angle facing your opponent, with your punch-throwing arm behind your other arm. For example, if you're throwing your right hand, stand with your body slightly facing to the right and your left arm ahead of your body. Working on this stance will help reinforce the correct technique to throw a powerful punch; you'll get little power by standing squarely and punching.

2
Step into the punch as you deliver it by sliding your foot forward to use the weight of your body as force. If you're punching with your right hand, step forward with your left foot and turn your right hip into the punch as you deliver it. Not only will you get more of your body's mass behind to punch to build up its force, you'll also have a greater striking range by moving forward. Remember, your leg muscles are larger than your arm muscles, so using them is a definite asset.

3
Rotate your arm and fist as you punch. A boxer holds his fist with his knuckles facing up and the edge of his small finger toward his opponent, but rotates his arm and fist so that the back of his hand is facing upward and parallel to the ground at the point of impact.

4
Punch through the target, rather than simply to it. If you're hitting a punching bag, don't let your punch stop when it hits the surface of the bag. Instead, drive your fist deeper into the bag.
-
5
Exhale through your mouth as you deliver the punch. With this technique, you're expelling all the energy from your body into your punch. Breathing is integral in boxing and martial arts alike, and if you watch any fight, you'll be able to hear the participants' loud breathing when they throw punches.
-
6
Practice your punch power by hitting a heavy bag at the gym or working with a trainer wearing focus mitts. If force is your main objective, don't worry about the speed at which you throw. Instead, focus on delivering your punch as cleanly and squarely into the target.
