How to Hang a Boxing Bag
Things You'll Need
- Stud finder
- Pencil
- Drill
- Eye bolt
- Swivel hook
- Chain
- Heavy bag ceiling mount
- Bolts
Instructions
-
Under 125 Pounds
-
1
Find and mark a ceiling stud with the stud finder and pencil. Drill a hole through the center of the stud.
-
2
Screw in the eye bolt through the pre-drilled hole. These usually come with the boxing bag, or you can find them easily at hardware stores.
-
3
Attach the swivel hook to the eye bolt. If you only have an S hook, find a swivel link to go between that and the eye bolt, otherwise the stress will cause the eye bolt to break eventually.
-
4
Attach the chain to the bag and the swivel hook, or S hook. Adjust the height of the back so that the bottom hangs at your hips or navel, whichever feels more comfortable to you.
Over 125 Pounds
-
5
Locate and mark your ceiling stud.
-
6
Center the ceiling mount over the stud, then drill holes through each of the four bolt holes in the ceiling mount into the ceiling stud.
-
7
Bolt the ceiling mount down through the pre-drilled holes, then attach the eye bolt to the central bolt hole in the ceiling mount. Attach the swivel hook, bag and chain to the eye bolt as you do for the under-125 pound bags. The ceiling mount distributes the weight of the heavier bag through the four bolts and steel mount, making it much sturdier.
Floor Anchors
-
8
Drill a hole in the floor exactly under where the bag is bolted to the ceiling, if you want to anchor the bag so that it doesn’t swing around too much while in use.
-
9
Screw an eye bolt into the floor through the pre-drilled hole, then attach a swivel hook to the eye bolt.
-
10
Attach a chain end to the swivel hook, then to the bottom of the bag (boxing bags have pre-fabricated loops for attaching anchors). Make the chain long enough to allow the boxing bag to swing to around 40 or 50 degrees.
