How to Properly Put on Boxing Wrist Wraps

Boxing is a popular sport, utilized by many for the fulfillment of competitive desires as well as the excellent workout it provides. Before stepping into the ring to box, or competing in other full-contact activities like kick-boxing or muay thai, it is important to properly apply a wrist wrap. Wrist wraps give extra support to the hand and wrist to help prevent injury when you throw a punch.

Instructions

    • 1

Hook the wrap's thumb loop over your thumb.

    • 2

Wrap it around your wrist tightly three times. Like all wraps made throughout the entire wrapping process, the wraps should be tight enough to stay in place when you move the hand, but not so tight as to cut off circulation. Conclude the final wrap so that the remaining unused portion is on the thumb side of your wrist.

    • 3

Wrap over the top of your thumb's lower knuckle by wrapping between the thumb and index finger, then around your wrist again. Repeat this wrap two to three times, depending on how much movement in your thumb you need and are comfortable with. As in Step 2, you should finish with the unused wrap on the thumb side of your wrist.

    • 4

Wrap your knuckles by bringing the wrap across the top of your hand diagonally up to the outside of your lower pinky knuckle, and wrapping horizontally around all four fingers' lower knuckles three times. The last wrap should finish with the unused part next to your lower index knuckle.

    • 5

Return the wrap to beneath your thumb by passing it diagonally across the top of your hand from your lower index knuckle to the pinky side of your wrist, then passing it under the wrist so that it is in the familiar location on the thumb side of your wrist.

    • 6

Pass the wrap over the top of your hand, between your middle and ring fingers, and back to its spot beneath your thumb.

    • 7

Wrap your knuckles as in Step 4 to use any excess wrap until you have just enough to cross back down as in Step 5. Wrap the wrist once more and secure with the Velcro.
