How to Apply a Grip to a Cricket Bat

Cricket is a team sport, where a game can last for a few hours or, during a formal competition, a few days. It is played in Britain, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand and many other countries, many of which are members of the British Commonwealth. The United States has its cricket aficionados, too. Cricket has some similarities to baseball in that it also uses successive innings and the goal is to score the most runs. Players wisely wear protective gear and the game tools are the wicket, cricket bat and ball, stumps and bails. Getting a proper grip on the bat will help you improve your performance.

Instructions

    • 1

Position both of your hands close together and near the top of the cricket bat handle. This is vital to give you the most control and to avoid wrist injuries.

    • 2

Place your non-dominant hand on the handle above your dominant hand. For instance, if you are right-handed, place your left hand above your right hand.

    • 3

Point the thumb and forefinger down on the top hand and position them between the outside edge of the bat and the center. The thumb and forefinger will make a “V” shape.

    • 4

Place the dominant hand with the wrist behind the cricket bat and grip it so that your thumb covers the top of the bat and your palm faces the wicket-keeper or the stumps.

    • 5

Bend your knees slightly so that the top hand (the non-dominant one) is near the front portion of your upper thigh. For a right-handed person, this means the top hand will be near the left thigh area.
