Themes for Football Games

Football games have a traditional structure, but you can make them a little more dynamic by adding a theme to them. The theme can relate to the purpose of the game or the players in the game, and you just have to support the theme with appropriate entertainment, paraphernalia, uniforms and refreshments.

  1. Opponents

    • Make non-traditional opposing teams to create a theme for a football game. A "powderpuff" football game theme is when teams of girls play against one another, and often dress up in bright colors with sporty, tall socks and headbands. Father-and-son football games can be played, as well as big-brother and little-brother games. All-star games can also be created as themes to have the best players from a region to play in a football game at the end of a season.

    Entertainment

    • Football films can be the foundation for football games if you incorporate the music and styles from the films into live action. Play music from the soundtracks of well-known football films during a football game, and incorporate quotes from the films onto banners and commemorative mugs and t-shirts for the game. You can also play clips from the film on a screen during the halftime of the football game.

    Setting

    • Football can be played in a variety of places and situations, which create themes for the game. You can make a beach football theme and play on the beach with swimsuits, or you can make a snowball football theme and play out in the snow in the winter. The refreshments before, during and after the football game can be related to beach or snow conditions, depending on the theme.

    Objective

    • Football games can be played for a fundraiser, which can also relate to the theme of the games. Set up the games to raise money for an event or organization. You can have all the players wear jerseys that sponsor someone, for example, or have every touchdown raise money for a charity.
