How to Put on a Cup Guard

A cup guard is an important piece of gear for the athletic male. The cup guard protects the testicles and immediate groin region from potentially devastating impact. There are a few varying styles of cups, differing from each other slightly, that fit onto the groin in much the same way. Most cup guards are fitted using a jock strap, but some athletic shorts are made with built-in pockets for a cup guard.

Instructions

    • 1

Fit the cup guard onto your groin. If you are wearing athletic compression shorts, slide the cup into the built-in cup guard pocket. If you are going to use a jock strap, fit the cup into the front panel of the supporter. You want the cup to fit snugly but not restrict your movement.

Hold the cup guard firmly in place while putting on a jockstrap over it securely. The fit should be tight, but not too tight. Don't use a jockstrap with worn out elastic.

Test the fit of the cup by stretching, doing a few high-knee sprints in place or doing jumping jacks. It won't be totally comfortable, but be confident that you have complete movement of your body with the cup guard in place. If not, adjust the cup accordingly.
