How to Remove Worn Down Football Cleats

Cleats, or studs, are usually screwed into the bottom of a football player's shoes to provide extra grip on the ground while he is running. Although they're designed to be durable, they take a fair amount of punishment and it doesn't take long before they become worn and tired. If a footballer's cleats are past their best, it can affect performance. Replacing them before they become too worn can improve play and make the shoes last longer.

Instructions

    • 1

Inspect your cleats to ensure they're detachable. Some cleats are screwed directly into the sole of a shoe whilst others are secured by a screw-in plate. If your cleats are molded to the sole of your shoe, you can't replace them and will need to buy a new pair.

    • 2

Unscrew your cleats from the base of both shoes.

    • 3

Visit a local sports store or go online to find replacement cleats. Most football shoe cleats are of a uniform size so it won't always be necessary to buy directly from the manufacturer of your shoes. If you have trouble locating the correct cleats, however, you will need to contact the company that designed and produced them.

    • 4

      Order your replacement cleats.

    • 5

Screw the cleats in securely to both shoes.

    • 6

Run in your boots to break in the new cleats.
