How to Create Your Own Nike Football Cleats

Customized gear sets athletes apart while creating an intimidation factor for opponents. Football is a sport where a competitive edge can make all the difference. A set of football cleats that are unlike anyone else’s can make an ordinary player look like a star. Nike’s website provides a simple way to design customized football cleats that can either be purchased or used as wallpaper for your computer.

Instructions

Go to the Nike website (see References) and click "Nike ID" at the far left of the computer screen. Run the cursor over the "Men's" tab and select "Football" from the drop-down list. Choose from two different cleat styles, high- or low-top (the selection as of August 2010). The prices range from $120 to $140; adding a glove will increase the price.

The selected shoe will appear on the screen along with a progress chart. Run the cursor over the shoe to continue with the design process or select "Start Blank" if you would rather start with a colorless shoe. The progress chart to the right of the screen will display the current step out of a total of 10. If you select a predesigned shoe, the process chart will start at roughly step eight. If you select "Start Blank," run the mouse over the shoe to select colors for each of the following: base, quarter, tip overlay, lining, accent, foxing (the outer part of the heel) and laces.

A color box with the available color choices will be displayed for each. Click the “What’s left?” tab for a drop-down list that displays the steps that you have left in your design process.

Select the type of outsole you would like from the two available choices. Choose "D" if the shoes will be used on grass or other surfaces that can be wet, muddy and soggy. Choose "TD" for surfaces such as artificial turf or any other surface that will be dry. Select either black or white for the outsole color.

Choose your heel symbol and ID. The heel symbol can be a two-digit number and will be displayed on each shoe. The left and right heel can each have a personal ID from a maximum of 10 characters, digits from 0 to 9 or letters from A to Z. Next, select the font type (there are only two) and color from the available box. Lastly, select a tongue graphic from the available mascot choices.

Select the size and quantity for your customized Nike cleats. This completes the design phase. Your design can be saved to a locker or as wallpaper for your computer. If you wish to save your Nike football cleat as wallpaper, a list of background designs will be displayed behind the cleat. Otherwise, select “Add to Cart” if you wish to purchase the shoe.
