How to Make Grip Solvent
Things You'll Need
- Gallon bucket
- Water
- Vinegar
- Spray bottle
- Vodka or paint thinner
- Double sided tape
Instructions
-
Increase Tackiness
-
1
Fill a gallon bucket with warm water. Make sure the bucket is clean before filling it so no unwanted debris gets into the solution.
-
2
Pour one-half cup of vinegar into the bucket once it is full of water and stir or shake it until it's mixed.
-
3
Pour the contents of the bucket into an empty spray bottle until it is full. There should be plenty of this solvent solution left over after the spray bottle is full. You can dump it or use it for later rounds of golf.
-
4
Spray the grips of your clubs with this vinegar/water solvent solution and allow it to either air dry or wipe it away with a dry towel. Air dry is best. This will increase the tackiness of your golf grips and create a better feel in your swing.
Grip Replacement Solvent
-
5
Cut away the existing grip and pour vodka or paint-thinner directly onto the newly exposed portion of the shaft. This will free up the residual tape residue and allow you to clean the club before replacing the shaft.
-
6
Retape the area of the shaft that is to be covered by your new grip with double-sided tape once it is completely clean.
-
7
Fill your replacement grip with the vodka or paint-thinner, plugging the holes on both ends with your thumb and index finger.
-
8
Dump the solvent out of the grip onto the newly taped area and shove the grip onto the club. The solvent will make this a fairly effortless shove and the tape will hold the grip in place once the solvent has dried.
-
9
Wait at least eight hours before swinging the club.
