Towing a Golf Cart

Golf carts are small vehicles that can carry two or more passengers over short distances. You may need to transport your golf cart for various reasons such as taking it to another golf destination, country club or trails. This task requires the use of a trailer and a few other materials. You can rent or purchase trailers from hardware stores and home improvement stores. With a trailer, you can bring your golf cart to any location and enjoy golf without the hassle of walking around long courses.

Instructions

    • 1

Make sure your car's trailer hitch has a weight capacity that can handle the combined weight of the trailer and golf cart. Look for the trailer's weight on the frame and the golf cart's weight in the owner's manual.

    • 2

Attach the trailer to your vehicle by connecting the trailer's ball receiver over the top of the hitch ball. The hitch ball is located on the vehicle's tow hitch. Connect the electrical harness from your car to the harness of the trailer.

    • 3

Attach the two portable ramps to the back of the trailer. Position the ramps to accommodate the width of your golf cart.

    • 4

Drive the golf cart up the ramps and to the front of the trailer. Lock the parking brake and then use bungee cords or tie-down straps to secure the golf cart to the trailer.

Tow the golf cart to your desired destination. Drive slowly and carefully, because it takes longer to stop when towing a load behind your car. Make sure you have enough space when switching lanes, making turns and parking the vehicle.
