How to Make a Golf Counter Bead

Golf is referred to as a 'gentleman's game' because players are often required to keep track of their own scores. It's possible to lose track of just how many strokes you've used on any particular hole, and that's when golf counter beads can come in handy. This simple combination of beads and string allows you to keep track of each stroke without committing them to memory. It is also best to attach the strings to a clip or key-chain, for easy access.

Things You'll Need

  • Clip or key-chain
  • Two lengths of string (approximately 12 inches each)
  • 10-12 beads

Instructions

    • 1

Tie each string to your key-chain or clip with a tight knot. They should be hanging free, side by side before you begin stringing the beads. Think of the strings as string A and string B.

    • 2

Slide string A through your first bead from left to right, and string B from right to left. Both strings must be inserted through each bead from alternating sides.

    • 3

Slide string B through your second bead from left to right and string A from right to left.

    • 4

Continue stringing each bead in this alternating fashion until all 10 to 12 beads are fastened securely. The act of sliding both strings through each bead in a criss-cross pattern will hold them in pace. No other knots are required until the end.

    • 5

Tie the two string together in a knot once you've strung each bead. Allow for an inch of space between the last bead and the finishing knot, so there is room to slide each bead down.

    • 6

Slide a bead down every time you hit the ball and any time you incur a penalty stroke, for out of bounds, water hazards or other traps.

    • 7

Count up your beads at the end of each hole and then reset by sliding all the beads up to the top again.
