How to Practice Hitting a Drop Shot Slice

In golf, a drop shot slice is a low trajectory shot that spins away from your body; left if you're left-handed, right if you're right-handed. Trajectory is controlled by the loft of your club and the speed of your swing. The outward spin is controlled by the angle of the clubface at impact and your swing plane. The drop shot slice is ideal when playing in a head-on wind and for navigating your ball around trees, bunkers and other hazards.

Instructions

    • 1

Address the ball, situating your feet so that the ball is at the back of your stance. The ball should be closer to your back foot than your front.

    • 2

Tilt your hands forward, delofting the club with your wrists angled slightly.

    • 3

Take the club back, maintaining your wrist angle, to the outside of your regular swing plane. Your arms should be extended away from your body.

    • 4

Begin your down swing, pulling your arms back towards your body while maintaining your wrist angle.

    • 5

Swing through the ball, pulling your arms against your body in the follow through. This causes the clubface to cut across the ball and spin it away from you.

    • 6

Follow through to the same length as your backswing and lift your back foot slightly through impact.
