TaylorMade r7 CGB Irons Specs

In 2008, TaylorMade introduced its line of r7 CGB MAX Irons, designed for novice to amateur golfers. The r7 CGB irons create a larger sweet spot (to improve forgiveness for off-center shots) and a lower center of gravity (to create a higher trajectory and increase distance). The standard set is a 3-irons through pitching wedge, although lower irons and higher wedges can be made to match the set.

    • TaylorMade designed its CGB MAX irons heads with a deep cavity back and undercutting sole to produce a softer feel at impact and allow for more consistency and forgiveness. The back of the undercuttting sole plate is also fitted with two weighted inserts at the heel and toe to enlarge the sweetspot to improve the trajectory of off-center shots. These features all work together to lower the center of gravity in the club head, allowing for high-trajectory ball flight, further distance and soft landing.

    Shaft

    • R7 CGB MAX irons come standard with a variety of shaft options, ranging from graphite Aldila NV 85 Comp to Dynamic Gold True Temper Steel, available in regular (R), stiff (S) or extra stiff (X) flexes. The speed of your swing will dictate the appropriate flex -- the faster your swing the stiffer the flex should be -- and each flex is ideal for different functions. A regular flex will help produce force at impact, while stiff and extra stiff flexes will promote accuracy and consistency. These shafts can also be easily swapped out for a particular shaft of your choosing, depending on preference.

    • TaylorMade also designed fairway woods and drivers in the r7 CGB MAX family. These clubs utilize the TaylorMade movable weight technology (MWT), which allows golfers to alter the weight distribution in the club head to produce a variety of shot styles. Placing the majority of the weight in the heel will promote a draw, while weight in the toe will produce a fading effect. Weight can also be added to the center-back to create a neutral ball flight.
