1
Address the ball with the grooves of the club face running perpendicular to your intended target. You may be on the left or right side of the ball depending on your dominant hand.
-
2
Move your feet forward or backwards in order to situate the ball in the correct position of your stance. The length of the club you are using will dictate the ball's ideal position. The longer your club, the further forward the ball should be in your stance.
-
3
Take the club straight back, bending your dominant arm at the elbow and keeping your other arm straight.
-
4
Cock your wrists midway through the back swing to form a 90 degree angle. This angle should be held throughout the back swing, down swing and at impact. It should not be released until after the point of impact -- this will ensure maximum force.
-
5
Continue to take the club back until it reaches its apex over your dominant shoulder. The length of the club and the distance you wish the ball to travel will dictate how far back you should take it, however, no club should ever be taken passed a parallel line to the ground.
-
6
Pull the club back down in a forceful manner, using the earth's gravity to your advantage. This means swinging in a fluid motion -- any kind of hitch or jerk in your downswing will terminate gravity's aid and leave the production of force entirely up to you.
-
7
Hold the angle through impact, concentrating more on making a solid swing then on how well you hit the ball.
-
8
Release the angle after impact and follow through to your other shoulder, allowing your dominant arm to straighten and your other arm to bend at the elbow.
