How to Drive a Golf Cart Up a Hill With Loose Rock

Golf carts allow you to travel over the entire area of the course without having to walk. This can be especially helpful when traveling over rugged terrain on the course. Dry conditions mixed with extreme heat can cause soil to dry out and rocks to become loose. Driving your golf cart up a hill with these conditions requires extra caution to ensure that you and your passengers get up the hill safely.

      Look ahead to determine the make-up of the terrain. As you approach the hill with loose rock determine how steep the hill is, and whether there are any large loose rocks you need to avoid.

      Slow down the speed of your golf cart. Traveling at a slower speed will reduce the risk of slippage as you begin to climb the hill. It will also reduce any vibration from the loose terrain.

      Climb the hill cautiously. Continue to look out for holes, large rocks and other areas which seem like they should be avoided. Negotiate these areas by moving to the left or right of them while driving.

      Return to normal speed once you have reached the top of the hill and are again on flat surface.
