1
Wrap a piece of elastic around the bottom or top of your leg, depending on which end you plan to shorten the socks. Pin the elastic with a sewing pin so that it is tight but not pinching your leg at all.
-
2
Thread your needle. Take the elastic off and sew it together with a few basic hand stitches to keep it secure. Tie of the ends multiple times and cut of the hanging threads.
-
3
Place the elastic inside the sock in the area where you plan on shortening it. Hockey socks do not go over the foot, so they can be shortened from the top or the bottom.
-
4
Fold the sock over the elastic casing the amount that you want the sock shortened. Stitch the casing closed using your needle and thread. Create small and even stitches going from the inside to the outside. Move from one knit hole to another in even spaces. Once you have stitched around the whole sock, with the elastic inside the casing, tie the thread multiple times on the inside of the sock and cut the ends.
