How to Attach Clear Neck Protectors Onto a Goalie's Mask

Hockey goalies can find themselves on the receiving end of vulcanized rubber traveling at speeds of almost 100 mph and in the path of erratically moving, razor-sharp skate blades on a routine basis. The equipment goalies wear is essential in protecting themselves from debilitating injuries. Most people can easily conjure up images of thick padding and caged masks when they think of goalie equipment, but they often forget about the importance of a clear neck protector.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the string into three equal segments, measuring approximately 6 inches in length. You can always cut off excess string after you've attached the neck shield. It's better to cut the strings too long than too short.

    • 2

Thread one of the segments of string through the hole in the center of the shield. Wrap the string around one of the bars on the cage at the bottom-center of the goalie mask. Tie it in a secure knot. Trim any excess string to prevent it from becoming distracting while playing.

    • 3

Thread one of the remaining two segments of string through one of the side holes of the neck protector. Wrap the string around one of the bottom bars of the goalie mask cage on the side you are attaching. Trim any excess string to prevent it from becoming distracting while playing. Repeat this process on the other side of the mask.
