How to Apply Easton Grip Tape

Easton is a major manufacturer of hockey accessories, including grip tape. Grip tape is applied to the top end of a hockey stick to give the player a greater hold on the stick as he or she moves about the rink. Some of how grip tape is applied is up to individual preference, but there is a standard pattern that can help you better control your stick. This pattern involves forming a base grip pattern, followed by a covered surface.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the hockey stick on a bench or other stable work surface.

    • 2

Unroll about 12 inches of hockey grip tape. Do not cut the tape.

    • 3

Twist the tape roll clockwise about 30 times to create a twisted, thin string of tape.

    • 4

Place the top of the twisted tape string at the top of the stick's shaft, and slowly wrap the string around the handle. For every rotation, move the tape down one inch.

    • 5

When the string of tape runs out, cut off the tape from the roll. The string should stick by itself to the shaft.

    • 6

At the top of the stick, begin wrapping the tape flat around the shaft, covering the string you've laid down. This will seal in the tape and create a gripping surface.

    • 7

Continue wrapping tape around the shaft until you've covered the entire string of tape on the handle. Cut off the tape from the roll and smooth down all edges by hand.
