How to Wear Goalie Equipment

Hockey can be a dangerous sport, especially for a goalie. While a goaltender may avoid common risks such as hard body checks into the boards, the position poses a constant danger in the form of pucks traveling at very high speeds. By properly putting on your equipment, you can prevent injuries while playing goaltender. Further, you can maximize your chances of stopping pucks by wearing your gear properly.

Instructions

  1. Put on goalie equipment.

    • 1

Secure your protective cup. This can be the most important piece of equipment a goalie will wear.

    • 2

Put on your skates and lace them. If you wait until later in the process, you will not be able to reach down to do so.

    • 3

Unbuckle both leg pads. Place your foot in either pad. Tie your pad into position using the toe ties. Fasten all of the buckles tightly; however, do not overdue it to the point of stopping your blood flow.

    • 4

Put your chest protector on and cover it with your jersey.

    • 5

Apply your helmet, put your glove on your catching arm, put your blocker on your other arm and grab hold of your stick with your blocker arm.
