1
Choose the correct size. Gloves will generally come in sizes between eight and 15 inches. Eight inches will be the junior sizes and 15 inches will be the senior sizes. Size is important, as a glove that is too small will be uncomfortable and a glove that is too large may slip off.

2
Select the outer material of the glove. All gloves are primarily coated with a polyurethane material; however, there are a few different fabrics that can change the dynamics of a glove. Carbon outer covering is lightweight, durable and water-repellent. According to Greatskate.com, Tufftek is the "ultimate fabric" as it is lightweight and more durable than the nylon used by most of the competition. The third type of outer material is classic material, the man-made material. This offers improved durability and weight reduction while also being a water-repellent material.

3
Choose your palm material, or the material inside the glove. There are many different types of palm material that can be used; however, most of them offer similar characteristics. They are primarily between .70mm and .95 mm thick. They are all very durable due to the type of material and leather used, and they all have a similar type of feel.

4
Choose the type of internal foam to be used. All internal foam is similar, yet there a few differences in certain types. Most will provide a high level of comfort and protection. Some will be less heavy than others, some will provide enhanced energy absorption due to the high density level, and some may offer more protection with the combination of foams used.

5
Select the specific design of the glove. Although some hockey leagues have strict guidelines as to the color of gloves, you can typically choose from a wide variety of dark, solid colors. Although goalies may have creative options with their helmets, their gloves must follow the same regulations imposed on skaters.
