Easton Hockey Blade Replacement Procedures
-
Materials
-
While it is simple process to replace the hockey blade, you need some equipment. In addition to an aluminum Easton hockey stick shaft and a new Easton hockey blade, you will need a heat gun. A heat gun can usually be purchased for about $60 at any hardware store.
Though a heat gun looks similar to a hair dryer, it's not possible to use a hair dryer because it doesn't produce enough heat.
Removing the Old Blade
-
The first step is removing the old, broken blade. The blade is secured to the shaft by glue, so it is simply a matter of heating the glue enough to be able to remove the blade.
Turn the heat gun to its highest setting and begin heating the bottom 3 inches of the shaft of the stick for about 90 seconds. Once the glue inside the shaft has heated thoroughly, try to remove the blade from the shaft by hand. If the blade does not slide out, continue heating the shaft of the stick again for 90 seconds and try removing again.
Putting on the New Blade
-
Most replacement Easton hockey blades already come with glue on the top part of the blade. To place the blade into the shaft, use the heat gun again to warm up this glue.
Heat the glued part of the blade on all sides until you can see it start to bubble. Do not touch the glue once it is warm. When the glue starts to bubble, hold the bottom of the blade and insert it into the shaft. Once the glue dries inside the shaft, which happens quickly, the stick is ready for use.
