1
Using a chop saw, cut the piece of wood down to your desired length. If you have a jointer on your chop saw, cut the corners of the shaft at a 45-degree angle to round out the edges. If your chop saw does not have a jointer, attach a 45-degree cutting bit to a router and cut the corners of the shaft.

2
Slide the lacrosse head onto the top of the shaft. Mark the location where the screw hole falls on the shaft, with a pencil. Using a power drill, drill a screw-sized hole at the penciled location.
-
3
Sand the shaft with 100-grit sandpaper. Run a damp rag over the shaft to remove any dust particles and debris.
-
4
Fill a lacquer spray gun with 1 part paint thinner to 4 parts lacquer. Applying lacquer reduces the chance of the shaft splintering while it's used.
-
5
Using a spray gun, apply lacquer to the shaft. Ensure the shaft is thoroughly coated, but stop before the lacquer begins to run.
-
6
Let the lacquer dry for 10 minutes. Sand the shaft with 400-grit sandpaper, and run a damp rag over the surface. Apply a second and third coat of lacquer as needed.
-
7
After the lacquer is completely dry, buff the surface with steel wool. Slide the lacrosse head back onto the shaft, and secure with a screw.
