How to Tail Whip on a Scooter

Although the tail whip looks intimidating, performing this trick on a scooter isn't as difficult as you might think. The tail whip consists of a complete rotation of the board around the handlebars while in midair. It's a relatively basic scooter trick, but still impressive to viewers. Once you're ready to give it a shot, find a long, flat surface and put on your safety gear. With a little practice, you'll have the tail whip down in no time.

Instructions

Get a feel for the tail-whip rotation by holding the scooter handlebars in front of you and spinning the board around. Once you're comfortable with the motion, try a step-off whip. Perform this trick by placing one foot on the ground while riding, then spinning the board around the handlebars. When you're ready, you can move on to the actual tail whip.

Begin the tail whip with a bunny hop. Build up a moderate amount of speed, then bend your knees and jump into the air. Pull the scooter up by the handlebars, keeping your feet in contact with the board.

    • 3

Kick the board with your back foot. Keep your knees bent as the board rotates around the handlebars.

Look downward and watch the rotation of the board. When it completes a 360-degree revolution, stomp your feet down on the board to stop the spin. Land with your board straight, absorbing the impact with your knees.
