How to Fit a Ballet Leotard

Dance wear is designed for comfort and fluidity. A ballet dancer wears a leotard during dance rehearsal and performances so her body is free and unencumbered by regular street clothes. However, like all other clothing, a leotard must fit well to look good and do its job. To get that perfect fitting leotard, you must try on different brands and styles.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure your body. Take a cloth measuring tape and measure around your bust line, waist and hips. Write down your measurements.

    • 2

Look at the size charts for various leotards. Most give you a height and weight chart along with the recommended size for each range. Many brand of leotards are sized differently. Your regular pants size is also not an indication of what size leotard you wear.

    • 3

Try on a variety of sizes. Just because your measurements say you are one size does not mean it will fit you comfortably.

    • 4

Look at each leotard you try on. Look at how it fits you in the waist, crotch and back. The leotard needs to fit snugly but not so tight that it feels uncomfortable or looks too tight. Move around in the leotard and note any tightness around your arms or thighs.
