How to Replay the Ball in Netball

Netball is a team game played by two sides of seven players. The sport is very popular in Great Britain, South Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. It is predominantly a women's sport, as the International Federation of Netball Associations ranks only women's teams. The basic rules are simple, such as no running with the ball, no controlling the ball for more than three seconds, and no venturing outside designated areas. The sport of netball is played at all levels, from the playground to international tournaments. Rules governing how to replay the ball are often misunderstood.

Instructions

      Bounce or bat the ball once, without first having control of the ball, in order to gain control of the ball. If the player had been in control prior to bouncing or batting the ball then a penalty will be given to the opposing team.

      Bat or bounce the ball to another player. This may be carried out only if the player who is batting or bouncing the ball did not have possession or control of the ball in the first instance.

      A player must regain footing if having fallen while holding the ball. The player must be on their feet before replaying the ball. If the ball is played from the ground then a penalty will be given to the opposing team.

      Catch or gain control of the ball when it rebounds from the post. If control of the ball is gained without it first touching either the post or another player then a penalty will be awarded to the opposing team.
