How to Get a Full Twist Back Layout

Gymnastics requires a tough athlete with both flexibility and balance. Routines take gymnasts months to practice and perfect. A full twist back starts with a basic back flip layout. Without seamlessly pulling off the basic back flip, the full twist leads to injuries and incompletion. A full twist back layout is a similar flip but requires a 360 degree rotation.

Instructions

    • 1
Practice all skills on the trampoline before moving them to the floor.

Master the ability of a back layout before attempting to include the 360 degree twist. Complete several practice tries in preparation to add the twist. Keep the abdominals tight while extending the body from the floor. Add additional bounce to the initial layout in order to ensure enough height and time to add the twist.

    • 2
Use the guidance of a coach or spotter to assist the the full twist layout.

Gain height within the bounce before twisting upwards and backwards. Look straight ahead, ensuring that the head is not immediately thrown backwards. Extend the entire body straight while keeping the abdominals in a tight position. Throw the hands up and reach the fingers as high as possible.

A running start and roundoff will give the gymnast the needed height.

Pull both hands to the left shoulder once the appropriate amount of height is reached. Move the hands in a straight line to the shoulder initiating the twisting movement.

Continually practice the layout until it is completed accurately.

Stop the rotation after having twisted the full 360 degrees. Open and lift the arms while keeping the body in a straight position. Extend the knees and ankles while keeping the abdominals tight to stick the landing. Land balanced with the hands and arms extending upwards.
