Texas Sport Associations

Sport associations in Texas are organizations led by boards of directors or volunteers that oversee the general practices, codes of conduct, and consistency of the leagues that fall under their banners. Sport associations don't always deal with day-to-day operations of leagues, such as scheduling games or assigning coaching staff, but they often schedule and operate tournaments and deal with any problems that arise among players and staff. While most sport associations in Texas oversee youth games, there are also organizations that deal with adult leagues and coaches responsibilities.
  1. Baseball

    • The Texas Teenage Baseball-Softball Association is a statewide organization that promotes baseball programs for boys and girls ages 5 to 18. The organization allows local affiliates to retain much of the control of their league operations, but ensures that all leagues are dedicated to the principles of fair play, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The Deep East Texas Baseball Association is more involved at the team level, operating a "select" league where players join specific, independent teams. For coaches, the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association handles rules changes and coach-umpire relations, and recognizes players and coaches through awards.

    Football

    • The Texas Youth Football & Cheer Association oversees the largest independent league in the state and runs chapters in San Antonio, Austin, Houston and the Rio Grande Valley. It's the foremost association dealing with youth football games in the state. However, teams operating in the Dallas/Fort Worth area tend to fall under the North Texas Youth Football Association, which oversees games and tournaments for football and cheer teams. For non-contact teams, the Texas Flag Football Association hosts tournaments and bestows awards.

    Soccer

    • The Texas State Soccer Association-South oversees men's, women's and co-ed leagues for both youth and adult teams, and hosts cup tournaments throughout the season. The North Texas Soccer Association also oversees men's, woman's and co-ed teams for all ages. It hosts clinics and tournaments, and recognizes coaches and players who exceed at the game. The North Texas Soccer Association is a member of both Soccer USA and FIFA, national and international soccer governing bodies.

    Hockey

    • The Texas Amateur Hockey Association oversees many different leagues in the state, ranging from adult to youth hockey, including men's, women's and disabled teams. The association is the foremost hockey organization in the state, overseeing most youth hockey games and leagues. It's a member of Hockey USA, the governing body for hockey in the U.S.
