How to Hold a Racquetball Tournament

If you play racquetball at the gym with your friends and would like to hold a tournament, then you need to be aware that there may be different rules that will apply depending on whether it's a college tournament, a sanctioned tournament or just a club tournament.

Confirm the type of tournament that you're going to hold. It may be a doubles, singles, adult, teen, women's or man's tournament. Narrowing the tournament to a specific type of tournament can save a lot of hassle.

Decide if you want the tournament sanctioned by the USA Racquetball Association. The local tournaments are required to have the tournament director do the draw.

    • 3

Understand that there is a consolation bracket for the losers and also the winners bracket. Anyone that has lost 5 games gets another opportunity to play.

    • 4

Know that only the first and second place need to have a play off to claim the title. Anyone in third place and tied with another can ask for a playoff. If the other party refuses, then the third place automatically goes to the requester. First and second place are decided by round robin scoring.

Sanction your tournament by being a member of the USA Racquetball Association and notifying the state president or sanctioning chairperson for that tournaments. You will need to fill out the paperwork and submit $100.

Utilize the official USA Racquetball Association tournament software. This software gives the holder of the tournament a simple method to seed and get information out to tournament players. The best part of the software is that it's free for USA Racquetball Association members' sanctioned events.
