How to Replace the Foam on Ski Goggles

Ski goggles provide eye protection from the sun, wind and snow as you ski down the slopes. Ski goggles also improve vision by filtering out glare and unwanted light reflection. The foam padding around the inner part of the goggles makes contact with the skin more comfortable and reduces fog. If the foam becomes torn or worn out, replace it immediately with new foam before the damage worsens. Replacing the foam is simple and easy, and can save you from having to purchase a new pair altogether.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old foam and take out all the glue residue from around the inside of your goggles. Loosen and scrape off any old glue with a wet rag.

    • 2

Use a pencil to trace the inner pattern of your goggles to the tracing paper. Place the goggles face down and carefully outline the shape on the paper. Measure the width of the old foam and match it to your pattern.

    • 3

Overlay your goggles pattern on the 1/4-inch thick foam. Cut a new foam pad with scissors.

    • 4

Place the foam pad around the inner part of the goggles for size. Cut off any excess and re-shape as necessary.

    • 5

Apply hot glue around the inner section of the goggles, following the same pattern from the old foam. Use a hot glue gun to protect your skin and to apply more precisely. Attach the new foam carefully and apply pressure. Hold in place by clipping with clothespins around the goggles as you wait for the glue to dry.
