How to Set a Ski Binding Chart

The Deutsche Industrie Normen, better known by its acronym DIN, is the ski industry's method of keeping binding settings standardized. DIN settings are used on alpine ski bindings and are based on the user's weight and skiing ability. Most modern ski bindings have a DIN range or 2 to 16. The higher the DIN setting, the harder it is for the bindings to release. As a general rule, more advanced and aggressive skiers use higher DIN settings. To get a DIN, you need to use ski binding charts, better known as the DIN chart.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on all of your ski clothes, including your boots. Hop onto the weight scale to get an accurate reading of you and your gear. Take your assessment of your ski ability. Most DIN charts use a three rating method: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Be honest about your abilities. Overstating your abilities leads to higher DIN settings and, if you don't have the skills to back them up, leads to injury.

    • 2

Take your weight and ability and cross-reference the ski binding (DIN) chart. DIN charts do not need to be reset or calibrated. They are standard and have a ratio built in.

Find your weight and ability on the chart and then add in the boot sole length. This allows you to set the DIN on your bindings to your abilities and body.
