How to Size Children's Skis

Correctly sizing skis for children is achieved by taking into consideration their height as well as their skiing ability -- beginner, recreational or intermediate. Children just starting out in the sport require a ski that allows the most maneuverability while restricting speed. By contrast, recreational skiers need a ski that offers an equal mix of speed and maneuverability, while an intermediate skier would prefer a ski which is longer, delivering more speed.

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure the child's height.

Taking into account the child's skiing ability along with his height, match him with the proper ski length on a sizing reference chart. For example, if the child is 4 feet 3 inches-to-4 feet 4 inches and is an intermediate skier, a ski 120-to-125 cm long is recommended.

Use the Metron Index if your child is an intermediate or advanced skier and you can determine a preferred turning radius of the skis. The Atomic Metron Index assigns a number for weight, ability and turning radius. The three numbers are added to find your child's Metron Index Number. That result will match up to a ski with the same number.
