How to Size Children's Ski Boots

Shoe size doesn't translate to ski boot size. What's more, each ski boot manufacturer sizes its children's ski boots slightly differently. The wrong ski boot size can cause painful blisters and provide inadequate foot and ankle support while your child is skiing. When you take your child to pick out a pair of ski boots, make sure she wears the same socks that she will wear with the boot.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the child's foot using the boot manufacturer's guide. The ski equipment store will have the appropriate sizing guide for each manufacturer. You also can look at the ski boot size conversion chart provided in the Resources section. This source is a guide and may not translate to each ski boot manufacturer.

    • 2

Remove the inner lining of the ski boot.

    • 3

Have the child put on the ski boots and stand up straight.

    • 4

Place two fingers between the child's heel and the inner boot shell. If you can't insert two fingers, the boot is too small. If you can insert more than two fingers, the boot is too big. Go up and down a size as needed.

    • 5

Have your child stand straight up and flex his knee with the boot on. He should be able to flex his knee over his toe.

    • 6

Pick a boot a half a size too big if your child is still growing.
