What's the Correct Ski Length for Kids?

Sizing Skis for Young Children
-
Parents often buy skis that are too big for their children, hoping they can get a couple years of use out of them and that the kids will grow into them. This is a mistake since skis that are too long may hinder kids' ability to learn. Children under 6 should use skis that come somewhere between their chest and chin when standing on end. Older children need skis that come about to their chins. If you have to choose between lengths, choose the shorter length.
Sizing Skis for Teenagers
-
Teenagers should choose skis that come somewhere between their chin and their forehead. Teens who are skinny need lighter weight skis and should choose shorter skis as a result. Again, err toward shorter skis, especially for beginning skiers.
Sizing Skis By Weight Rather Than Height
-
You can size your children's skis by weight rather than by height. Children who weigh 50 pounds or less need 90 centimeter skis. For each 10 pounds in weight, the ski length should go up another 10 centimeters, so that a 60-pound child has skis of 100 centimeters, a 70-pound child has skis of 110 centimeters, and so on.
