Snow Resorts Nearest Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania is home to several ski resorts. Although Pittsburgh, the second largest city in Pennsylvania, is not home to any ski resort, it is a one- to two-hour drive from several top-rated snow resorts in the state. Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Nemacolin Woodlands offer downhill skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snow tubing and even dog sledding.
  1. Seven Springs Mountain Resort

    • Seven Springs Ski Resort is approximately 60 miles east of Pittsburgh in Seven Springs, Pennsylvania. Although it offers activities for guests year round, it is known for its skiing. It placed in the top 50 resorts list by "Mountain Sports + Living" magazine and has been rated number one as a Mid-Atlantic resort by "SKI Magazine" readers.

      The resort contains approximately 285 acres of skiable area, with its longest run one and one-quarter-miles long. The resort offers 31 trails for beginner, intermediate and advanced skiers and also permits night skiing. Although Seven Springs receives an average of 100 feet of snow per winter, the resort also produces its own snow, ensuring that skiers can always enjoy their visit to Seven Springs.

      The on-site hotel offers 418 newly renovated nonsmoking rooms and suites, some of which are pet friendly, and feature outdoor hot tubs with slope-side views. The resort also has condominiums, townhouses and cabins on site to accommodate guests.

    Hidden Valley Resort

    • Hidden Valley Resort is 70 miles from Pittsburgh in Hidden Valley, Pennsylvania. The resort offers 70 acres of skiable area and 28 trails: 11 for beginners; 10 for intermediate skiers; and seven advanced trails, two of which are Double Diamond.

      The resort's nine lifts can carry up to 12,000 people per hour. Night skiing is allowed on 80 percent of its skiable areas. In addition to downhill skiing, the resort provides guests the opportunity to ski on cross-country trails, snowshoe and take a tube down a hill.

      Guests can stay at the Four Seasons Lodges, which provide a small refrigerator, sink and microwave in all guest rooms. The resort also rents single family homes and condominiums.

    Nemacolin Woodlands Resort

    • The Nemacolin Woodlands Resort is situated in Farmington, Pennsylvania, approximately 78 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. A 2,000-acre resort that offers golf, shooting and a Wildlife Academy, the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort provides skiing in the winter at its Mystic Mountain. Mystic Mountain offers 25 acres of skiable area, three chair lifts and 10 trails: three beginner, three intermediate and four advanced.

      Although the resort does not have a halfpipe, it does offer night skiing. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, Nemacolin boasts cross-country skiing trails, snow tubing, showshoeing and dog sledding.

      For dining, the resort is home to a Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five-Diamond restaurant, Lautrec, as well as pub-style eateries. Guests can stay in the resort's AAA Five-Diamond Falling Rock boutique hotel, the Chateau Lafayette Hotel, The Lodge Hotel, Maggie Valley RV Park or on-site townhomes or luxury homes.
