Snow Skiing in Brown County, Indiana
-
Ski Season
-
The Brown County area does not receive a large amount of snowfall, so the winter sports season is very short. It is often into the month of December before there is enough snow to support cross country skiing, and the snow usually melts away by the middle of March.
Locations
-
The state parks in the county provide miles of trails for cross-country skiers. Brown County State Park has eight hiking trails that traverse 12 miles of the park. During the winter months, those trails are open for use by cross-country skiers. McCormick's Creek State Park offers skiers 10 different trails to explore. The trails at both locations vary from easy to difficult so skiers can select the degree of difficulty that suits their needs.
Considerations
-
The cross-country skiing trails in Brown County are not used exclusively by people on skis. Snowshoeing is another form of outdoor recreation that is available at Brown County and McCormick's State Park. The Yellowwood State Forest is another venue that welcomes people who want to strap on the snowshoes to walk on top of the snow.
