Yakima Ski Rack Instructions

Most skiers prefer a rack system to carry their skis to and from the slopes. Rack systems typically carry four or six pairs of skis, enabling you to carpool with more ski buddies. Carrying the skis on the outside of the car also ensures that snow stuck to the skis at the end of the day doesn't melt and stain the inside of your car, and that the sharp ski edges don't slice your car's upholstery. Yakima makes several popular models of ski racks, including the Fat Cat and the Powderhound.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the top part of the Yakima ski carrier on the front and back by pushing the button in, then lifting the carrier bars up.

    • 2

Lift the first pair of skis onto the rack bars, centering the binding between the front and back bars. Mount the skis with the tails facing forward (into the wind).

    • 3

Slide the skis toward the hinge on the rack bars.

    • 4

Place the next pair of skis onto the rack and slide them until they are almost, but not quite, touching the first pair. Again, load them so the bindings are centered between the front and rear rack bars.

    • 5

Load the rest of the skis onto the rack bars until the rack is full. This will be either four or six pairs.

    • 6

Pull the top spacers down until they close with a click, then lock the bars by turning the key in the lock clockwise.
