Brighton Ski Resort in Salt Lake City, Utah

Brighton Resort doesn't rely on advertising to bring in its crowd. Instead, the resort has become well-known in Utah for providing family-friendly slopes, prized powder conditions and affordable passes.
  1. History

    • People have been skiing down the hills of Brighton since the 1800s. Even before tow ropes or lifts were in use, the Wasatch Mountain Club climbed the ridge to ski down the famous northwestern snow. In the 1930s, the club put in the first tow rope. Today, all runs at Brighton can be reached by high-speed quad chairlifts.

    Geography

    • Brighton Resort is a 35-minute drive from downtown Salt Lake City and Salt Lake City International Airport. It is southeast of the city in Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountain Range. Located at the top of the canyon, Brighton's elevation reaches 10,500 feet with the base at 8,755 feet. The resort has a 1,745-foot vertical drop.

    Features

    • Skiers and snowboarders will find 1,050 acres of the typical light, fluffy snow indicative of Brighton. The resort has 66 runs including off piste runs and bowls. Of these runs, 21 percent are considered easy, 40 percent are intermediate and 39 percent are advanced. The resort also has four terrain parks for riders of all abilities. Night skiing is available on 22 runs.

    Amenities

    • Brighton Resort offers a ski school for children and adults with daily lessons, private lessons, multi-week lessons and workshops. Brighton Lodge provides accommodations at the resort. The resort also has several restaurants including Millicent Chalet around the grounds.
