How to Adjust Downhill Ski Bindings

It is important to adjust your ski bindings so that your boots will fit into the bindings and to avoid injury. Downhill ski bindings have DIN settings, which specify how much force is needed for the skis to pop off in the event of a crash. DIN is calculated from several variables, including body weight, body height, the type of skiing you are using and your age. Once you know your DIN number and your boot size, adjusting your skis is a simple process that will not take long.

Look on the inside of your ski boot to determine the sole length. The skis will have a sole-length conversion chart on them that will show you how far apart to set the bindings.

    • 2

Push the clips on either side of the bindings to slide them into the proper place, lining them up with the number indicated by the sole-length chart.

    • 3

Go to dinsetting.com. Enter your height, weight, age, boot length and experience level (Type 1 is beginner, Type 3+ is expert). Press "Calculate DIN" and write down the number.

    • 4

Twist the screws at the toe and heel of the bindings, which will cause the visual indicator to move. Twist the screws until the indicator is set to your DIN number.

Try on the skis, sliding your toe into the front binding then pushing your heel into the rear binding. Walk around slowly to make sure the skis feel secure and set properly.
