How to Erase Scuff Marks From a Snowboard

Your snowboard may look like it is in pristine condition now, but after a season -- or a day -- of riding your snowboard, it becomes exposed to wear and tear from the mountains, trees, rocks and other objects you encounter when going down a mountain. Scuff marks on the bottom of the board are a common occurrence, but can make it difficult to maintain a smooth sailing effect as you ride. It is important to erase the scuff marks or buff them out as soon as you notice them.

Things You'll Need

  • Razor blade

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the damage. Turn the snowboard over to inspect the severity of the scuff mark.

    • 2

Slice off any material from the board that is hanging off at the scuff mark. The incident that caused the scuff mark might have caused some of the board to pull up. Use a razor blade to cut it off so that you are working with a smooth surface.

    • 3

Scrape off the wax on the board with a putty knife. Position the putty knife over the scuffed area of the board and chisel away gently at the coating of wax.

    • 4

Pour base cleaner onto a rag. Rub the scuff mark with the base cleaner to remove any dirt. Brush the area with a wire brush so that any small debris or rocks that are lodged in the board come loose. You can also use household rubbing alcohol instead of base cleaner.

    • 5

Sand the scuff mark with medium-grit sandpaper to buff the mark out of the board. Do not sand the board too roughly, to avoid causing the board to become misshapen.

    • 6

Apply a clear rubbing compound to the scuff mark. Rub the scuff mark vigorously with a microfiber rag over the rubbing compound.
