How to Know Your Dominant Foot in Snowboarding

Wintertime brings about numerous changes to our environment. Ordinary hillsides become winter paradises for children and adults looking to try their luck on the slippery slopes. One such method of mountain decent is via snowboard. Snowboarding beginners are faced with a lot of decisions about their stance, not the least of which is front foot on the board. Finding out your dominant foot is a matter of preference and envisioning scenarios.

Instructions

Envision yourself in socks in front of a wide open, freshly waxed floor. You start running and then you put one foot forward and begin to slide. Which foot did you envision being forward? This is probably your dominant foot for snowboarding.

    • 2

Use the same foot you use forward for surfing or skateboarding. Generally, you will have developed balance that will carry over to snowboarding if you've participated in either of these activities.

    • 3

Have a friend stand behind you and when you give the cue, have her give you a modest shove in the back. To stop yourself from falling, you'll probably put one of your feet forward to catch yourself. This is your dominant foot.

Take the foot that appeared as the lead in at least two of these three tests. If it is your left foot, look for a snowboard footed "regular." If your right foot is dominant, look for a snowboard labeled "goofyfoot" or "goofy."
