How to Lace Nike Mercurial Vapors

Nike Mercurial Vapors are a lightweight brand of soccer cleats that are worn by several top professionals. In order to create as smooth a surface as possible for striking the ball, a lace guard is attached to the boots that covers the bumps and ridges of lacing. Unfortunately, the lace guard is attached very tightly to the top of the shoe, which makes it difficult to access the lower eyelets, especially since you cannot see the holes, as they are under the cover.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the original laces from your Vapors.

    • 2

Hold one aglet, the plastic tip on the laces, between the thumb and index finger of one hand, so the tip of the aglet is pointed toward your pinkie finger.

    • 3

Insert your middle finger into the cleat, above the tongue, and position it so it is on the inside of the eyelets of the shoe.

    • 4

Slide your hand down the eyelets until you reach the bottom eyelet.

    • 5

Press the back of your index finger against the underside of the lace guard to lift it up.

    • 6

Insert the end of the aglet into the eyelet, using your middle finger as a guide, and pull the lace through.

    • 7

Repeat with the second aglet on the opposite bottom eyelet, then pull the two loose ends so they are even.

    • 8

Lace the cleats, passing each lace across diagonally, until you reach the top of the lace guard. For example, the lace from the bottom left eyelet will be passed through the second bottom right eyelet, and so on.

    • 9

Lace the top eyelets above the lace guard as you would a normal pair of shoes.
