1
Put on your safety glasses. Confirm that the pistol is unloaded by depressing the button directly behind the trigger guard to release the magazine from the bottom of the pistol grip. Pull back the slide assembly to verify that the chamber is empty.
-
2
Press the takedown button on the right side of the handgun, just above the trigger guard, and turn the takedown lever --- which is just behind the button --- until it points down. Remove the top portion of the firearm (the slide assembly) by pulling it all the way forward and lifting it away from the bottom of the firearm. Set aside the slide assembly. Retain the lower half of the firearm for further disassembly.
-
3
Remove the slide stop lever on the left side of the firearm by pulling it away from the frame of the gun, twisting it upward, and then wiggling it until it releases and pulls out. The slide stop spring will follow when you remove the slide stop lever. Disconnect the spring by twisting it loose from the now-exposed slide stop hole.
-
4
Pull the trigger pin out with your fingernail and remove it. (The trigger pin is located just above the trigger.) The trigger will now come loose, and slide out the top of the gun. The factory trigger spring will follow. Discard the factory trigger spring. Return the trigger through the top of the gun, and back into the trigger chamber.
-
5
Insert the slide stop spring and slide stop lever from Step 3 into the slide stop hole. Insert the peg on the reverse side of the lever into the hole, and then twist the lever back into place.
-
6
Position the new coil spring trigger unit vertically inside the trigger chamber, so that the front end of the unit butts against the front of the trigger chamber, and the unit's circular cam lines up with the trigger pin hole.
-
7
Insert the trigger pin into the trigger pin hole. Press it down with a small screwdriver until it seats firmly in the hole.
-
8
Apply a few drops of gun oil to the new coil spring trigger unit. Before assembling the pistol any further, operate the trigger to make sure it functions properly. Depending on the coil spring you chose, the trigger will either have lighter action for reduced power in the trigger pull, require extra power for faster trigger action, or have an equivalent pull to the factory-installed spring.
-
9
Install the slide assembly by sliding it over the bottom half of the firearm and toward the rear.
-
10
Turn the takedown lever upward into its original position, until the takedown button also snaps back into place.
